Information
Also known as the Valley of the Moon, Wadi Rum is a protected desert wilderness in southern Jordan. It is home to Bedouin communities and to rock drawings and inscriptions dating back thousands of years. The dramatic landscape has appeared in films such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Martian, and Dune.
How to visit
Reach the Wadi Rum Visitor Centre about 60 km north of Aqaba. Private vehicles are not allowed beyond the village; tours run in 4x4 jeeps with local Bedouin guides. Options range from two-hour trips to overnight stays in desert camps. Bring layers — desert nights are cold even in summer.
