The lowest point on Earth, famous for its therapeutic salt water.
Information
Sitting more than 430 m below sea level, the Dead Sea is one of the saltiest bodies of water on Earth. The high salinity makes swimmers float effortlessly and the mineral-rich mud is used worldwide in skin treatments. Resorts along the northern shore offer private beaches and spa facilities.
How to visit
Most public and private beaches are about an hour from Amman by car. Do not put your head under the water — the salt stings the eyes and is harmful if swallowed. Avoid shaving before entering. Rinse off with fresh water immediately after to protect your skin and swimwear.
